Pyramids of Giza

The Last Standing Wonder of the Ancient World

On the edge of Cairo stand the three pyramids of Giza, built as royal tombs during Egypt's Fourth Dynasty more than four and a half thousand years ago. The Great Pyramid of Khufu remained the tallest structure made by human hands for almost four millennia.

Alongside them, the Great Sphinx watches over the plateau, and a field of smaller pyramids, causeways, temples and tombs records the workers, priests and officials who served the complex.

The site remains the most recognisable symbol of ancient Egypt and one of the most studied archaeological landscapes anywhere in the world.
