Jerash preserves an exceptional Roman-era urban landscape of colonnaded streets, plazas, theaters, temples, gates, fountains, and monumental architecture. Walking through the archaeological site gives visitors a strong sense of the scale and organization of an ancient city.
The Oval Plaza and long colonnaded Cardo are among its most recognizable features, but the site's theaters, sanctuaries, arches, and later remains reward a longer visit. The modern city lies directly alongside the ancient ruins.
