The Hassan II Mosque stands on Casablanca's Atlantic waterfront, partly over the water, with a minaret that is among the tallest in the world. Its oceanfront setting gives it a presence unlike any other monument in Morocco.
Carved stone, geometric zellij tilework, painted cedar, plasterwork, arches and fountains bring together decorative traditions developed across Morocco over centuries, executed by thousands of craftsmen.
Completed in the early 1990s, it combines those traditional crafts with modern engineering, including a retractable roof over the prayer hall.
