Rising more than eight hundred metres above Downtown Dubai, the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest building in the world since its opening in 2010. Its stepped, spiralling form was drawn from regional geometry and desert flower patterns.
Observation decks near the top look out across the city, the coastline and the desert beyond, while the surrounding district of fountains, parks and promenades has become the centre of modern Dubai.
The tower is the clearest single expression of the ambition that reshaped the Emirates within a generation.
