Petra is Jordan's most celebrated archaeological destination, hidden among sandstone mountains and entered through the narrow Siq. Beyond the famous Treasury, the ancient city extends across a vast landscape of tombs, temples, pathways, high places, and rock-cut architecture.
The Monastery, or Ad Deir, is one of Petra's most monumental structures and rewards the climb with a dramatic setting among the mountains. Spending sufficient time at Petra reveals a much larger and more complex city than the iconic Treasury alone suggests.
