Madaba is known for its remarkable mosaic heritage, most famously the Byzantine-era mosaic map preserved in the Church of Saint George. Churches, archaeological remains, workshops, and streets throughout the town reflect its long history and continuing association with mosaic craftsmanship.
Its location south of Amman also makes Madaba a useful base for exploring Mount Nebo and nearby central Jordan. The town combines religious heritage, local neighborhoods, crafts, restaurants, and a more intimate scale than the capital.
