Jebel Akhdar, meaning the Green Mountain, rises high within the Hajar range and is known for cooler temperatures, dramatic canyons, traditional villages, and agricultural terraces carved into the mountainsides.
The highland climate supports crops that are unusual in much of Arabia, including pomegranates, apricots, and roses used to produce traditional Omani rose water. Scenic viewpoints, walking routes, and mountain resorts have made the area one of Oman's leading highland destinations.
